You never know what you can find online.
I was browsing the net looking for more hair mascara selection and found a UV hair mascara. It’s a glow in the dark hair mascara! That is if you want to glow!
This sounds so cool. I wish I knew about it during my more-partying days… But still, it’s never too late.
So, if you want to stand out on the dance floor, do a Google search for UV hair mascara and hopefully you’ll find one that ships to where you are. It is manufactured by a company called Stargazer and comes in 7 bright colors and 3 metallic ones. And it’s pretty cheap – most places I’ve browsed through have it under 4 GBP.
Actually, Stargazer manufactures a whole set of glow-in-the-dark cosmetics. From pencils to lipsticks to shadows…
I guess this is not exactly the typical use of hair mascara. Nothing natural or anything. But there is time and place for everything, right? And if you are here for the first time and were actually looking for information on where to buy a more traditional hair decor make sure you read the guide to looking for hair mascara post. And if you know of more places, leave a comment!
Bring Back Hair Mascara
I wish hair mascara was a fad again. I wish looking for it was not such a major research project.
I have written about where to buy hair mascara in my last post, so thankfully there are options out there. But they are clearly not what they were in the hay-days of the nineties.
Back then it was pretty simple. Everyone and their grandmother manufactured a hair mascara. We had L’Oreal, Aveda, Body Shop, Dior…
And then it died out.
Why?
I think the flaw in the logic was to over market it as a fad. And too many people wore too many weird-colored streaks in all shapes for all occasion. The result – sensible people figured it would look weird and there is no point trying.
But this product is so in demand. Properly used, that is. And properly marketed. Just browse through question/answer sites like yahoo answers and you’ll find tons of people looking for it. People are so desperate, they are willing to use regular mascara on their hair!
Where are the manufacturers? Where are their trend spotters? Do they think that ever since the nineties women stopped wanting color in their lives? Or stopped growing grey strands they want to cover up?
Please, bring back the hair mascara. We are so darn worth it!

Where to buy hair mascara?
Hair mascara was all the rage in the late nineties and then it just fell off the radar. Which is really odd, considering that everyday there are women looking for it. So if you are just starting to show some grays, of if you want to play with some colors, don’t despair – there is still a way to find hair mascara.
Here are some ideas of where you can get a hair mascara.
Avon has a product called grey root touch up, which is basically a hair mascara and comes in a typical mascara tube with three natural shades. You can get it from their site or the myriads of Avon representatives everywhere.
I’ve also seen a product called Heddy Instant Grey Touch Up which is the same hair mascara, but it seems to only be available at online stores. Try searching for “instant grey touch up”. They don’t seem to use the word “Heddy” all the time. It has about five different natural color shades.
Masc-A-Gray has a lot of natural shadows as well. They even have an auburn shade (reddish) which I if combined with blond streaks looks phenomenal in the summer. (No one said you have to use only one shade at a time! Experiment away – you can wash it off any time!)
There is Frederic Fekkai Hi-Lights Hair Mascara available at beauty.com. It comes in blond and cognac shades.
Come to think of it, when searching for hair mascara type in terms like “grey touch up” or “gray touch up”. There are many products that don’t call themselves “mascara” outright, but they really are. Remember, you don’t have to use it just to touch up gray hair. For example, if you have a dark hair, buy a hair mascara a few tones lighter and give yourself nice highlights.
And, of course, never discount eBay. Products from all over the world end up there and hair mascara is a frequent fixture. Some of the products I’ve recently spotted there were L’Oreal hair Mascara and Salon Selectives highlights and sets of funky colored ones.
Hope this helps!
Cheers for now…
